Original half brown leather with marbled paper over boards. Gold text and details on spine. Leather a bit scuffed. Joints solid. Hinges cracking. Bookplate of John Sides Davies, Oswestry” on front paste down. Ffep with marginal tears, adhered to subsequent blank. Some small marginal stains. Minimal foxing. Clean, bright, and tight throughout.

First English edition of an important work by Antonio Scarpa (1752 - 1832) First edition is G-M 2975: Sull’aneurisma: riflessioni ed osservazioni anatomico-chirurgiche. Pavia: tipog. Bolzani, 1804. “Scarpa distinguished true from false aneurysms. He introduced the concept of arteriosclerosis. English translations, Edinburgh, 1808 and 1819.“ 

 

Scarpa is eponymized in Scarpa’s fascia. He is also credited with being the first to describe the morbid anatomy of clubfoot.
