Rollin, Ancient History, in four volumes
The Ancient History of the Egyptians, Carthaginians, Assyrians, Babylonians, Medes and Persians, Macedonians and Grecians. By Charles Rollin, Late Principal of the University of Paris, Professor of Eloquence in the Royal College, and Member of the Royal Academy of Inscriptions and Belles Lettres. Translated from the French. In Four Volumes. From the Latest London Edition, Carefully Revised and Corrected. Chicago and New York: Belford, Clarke & Company, Publishers. [undated].
Four half brown leather volumes with red and black labels on spines, as well as rasied bands and gold ornamentation. Marbled paper over boards. Marbled page edges and end papers. Front board of first volume expertly reattached. All others joints/hinges intact, strong, in their original state. Mild scuffing of boards. Mild shelf wear. A few foci of chipped leather. Interiors somewhat toned, some pencil underlining in first few pages of volume 1 introduction—but otherwise unmarked. Small closed tear on blank, near gutter, preceding volume 4 title page. Clean and tight throughout. Prelims reproduce 18th century content and dates, but this set is clearly from the second half of the 19th century.
