Original embossed green cloth over boards with gold text on spine and front board. Mild shelf wear. Top edge of text block red. Scattered small stains on other edges of block. Joints/hinges strong. A few pencil markings on ffep and title. Toning/foxing of end papers, otherwise clean, bright, and tight throughout. Ads on front and rear pastedowns, ffep, final 14 leaves, and rfep.
Published posthumously and simultaneously in 1898 in both German and English, with the help of Alexander Kolisko, this atlas by Hofmann (1837 – 1897) contains some of the most impressive chromolithographs of forensic medicine and pathology ever published, which surpass those of even its most impressive predecessors, such as Orfila and Casper. The atlas also includes numerous black and white photographs. Textual explanations are provided throughout.
