David Brainerd, 1718 – 1747, was a Presbyterian missionary among the Delaware Indians in New Jersey. He died of tuberculosis. His biography, published by Jonathan Edwards, and endorsed by John Wesley, was an immediate success, and received enthusiastically for the next two and a half centuries by Christian readers and missionaries.
